Calendar of the Soul

The first version of the Calendar of the Soul was created by Rudolf Steiner for the years 1912-1913. Steiner created a series of 52 verses, one for each week of the year; through the verses one can experience how the unfolding seasons create a mood that is a metaphor for life processes of growth, expansion, harvest, and pulling back into rest and renewal.

Many Waldorf teachers begin their school day by gathering with collegaues to read the weekly verse.

When I first encountered Steiner’s calendar, I was so delighted - it dovetailed with work that I was doing with the Pagan/Wiccan/Celtic Wheel of the Year and how this archetype shows the pattern of a human life and also patterns within life - cycles within cycles.

I have written new versions of the verses myself, which I will share with you here. They are not at all direct translations of Steiner’s text, but rather my own artistic creations sharing what the verses mean to me.

One can begin the process of working with the verses at any point, so we can begin now. I’ll tell you more about why we begin the week on Wednesday evening in a later post.

This year I will mostly focus on these verses in this blog. May they be a source of inspiration to you!

Warmly, Diana
