Mimir’s Well

40.  Week of January 3  Epiphany

Mimir’s Well

At the world’s root

The founding stone of me

In winter darkness, winter cold

Alone I seem to be

The well with living water there

Reflecting stars above

I dip the cup of separateness -

It overflows with love!

According to Norse mythology, there is a spring at the base of the World Tree, that is the source of wisdom. The god Odin gave one of his eyes in exchange for a drink from this spring.

In keeping with last week’s theme, there is a lesson in that old myth about closing the “eye that sees the world” in order to access inner sight, inner knowing, inner wisdom. In the darkness of the winter night, we have the opportunity to look with out “insight” and find revealed that which is hidden from our everyday observations.

In our thoughts, we are alone. Under the burning clarity of those winter stars, we are asked to follow our own clear thinking, to find our own path to manifest our own intentions for this year that is now opening before us. What shines in the star that you follow is reflected in the abundant, refreshing waters here at the bottom of the winter darkness. Let yourself be refreshed by the source of life and love, whatever you perceive that to be, and go forward blessed by wisdom and peace.
