38 Week of December 20 Midwinter week

Enchantment lifts, awake I start

Hope blossoms in the brightness of my heart

The gift of spirit flowers and fruits

I hear the angels’ harps and lutes

In the stable, the simple house of me

The light of the world has come to be.

In the 13 week seasonal cycle, this is week 8. We have passed the midpoint of our winter journey. Forever and forever, this has been a time to celebrate the light that shines in the darkness.

This theme of “walking into darkness carrying a light” has been with us since before Samhain, but now the image shifts. Here at the bottom of the world, our light - the light of our seeking, the light of our faith, the light of our courage, the light of our essential selves - is met with…more light! Here we find a place of rest and renewal, a place to connect with our inner wells of strength. We are gifted/entrusted with the light/the spiritual resources that will become the fruits of the coming year. We celebrate.

Soon enough we will begin the long cold journey upward to spring. For now we rest and renew ourselves. May the gifts of the season bring joy to your heart.
